A Sean Dorney Story- ABC Journalist and PNG Rugby League Captain

Introduction

Sean Dorney is a multi -Walkley award winning ABC Journalist and author of The
Embarrassed Colonialist(The Embarrassed Colonialist | Angus & Robertson). I am
also proud to call him a close friend . Unbeknown to many , Sean In the 1970’s
achieved the unique honour of Captaining the Papua New Guinea Rugby League
Team (the Kumala). In this interview Sean discusses those days, his ascension to
the captaincy against a background of tribalism in PNG sport and the extraordinary
appeal rugby league has for the people of PNG . In the final part of the interview
Sean gives his views on the entry by PNG to the NRL in 2027,
