Born 1946 in Jandowae on the western downs and raised on a small dairy farm.
Sent to board at Brisbane Grammar School aged 13 after scholarship examinations in grade 8
1963 senior examinations. Commonwealth Scholarship to study medicine at UQ
Graduated MB.BS 1969
Specialist training in anaesthesia at St Bartholomews hospital London, RCH Melbourne, and Virginia Mason Hospital Seattle
FFARACS 1973 (passed faculty of anaesthetists final fellowship examinations)
1976 director of anaesthesia RWH Brisbane.
1978 appointed VMO RBH RCH and RWH (1981) with part time private practice joining Dr Dan Hoggs private practice (later renamed Narcosia)
1980 elected to faculty of anaesthetists QLD regional committee and held positions as regional education officer and chairman.
1982 appointed examiner for the faculty of anaesthetists final examinations
1992 membership of newly created Australian and New Zealand college of Anaesthetists
