Testimonials
I have known John Mangan for some 25 years. In addition to his broad academic teaching and research in a very broad range of interests, he has contributed extensively to the work of various Government Departments in Queensland.
That included my then Department of Employment and Industrial Relations. Some of the topics pursued included;
A study of the key determinants of social exclusion
Workforce casualisation
Workforce engagement of various CALD groups
More recently I have been a member of Jobs Queensland, the principal advisor to the Queensland Government on workforce policy and training. He has also contributed to that body with his most significant contribution being an analysis of the workforce requirements of the emerging clean Hydrogen Industry.
His work is always professional and innovative. Importantly for the user he has a great interest in the policy implications of his work. This has greatly enhanced the quality of the policy development work of the department.

John took the time needed to fully understand the project and provide clear advice as to the most appropriate way to meet the brief. With a tight turnaround time and multiple stakeholders, John delivered the analyses needed on time and to budget. His insights, responsiveness, professional skills and agility were invaluable. I look forward to working with John again in the future.

We have engaged Professor John Mangan for two studies on the Tasmanian wine sector. The latter was a major research project to capture the economic contribution of the sector today, to model potential future growth and the key factors likely to impact on its performance. The research was challenging because there is limited data on the small but premium Tasmanian wine sector, which is very different to the rest of the country. As a result, the project was detailed and lengthy. John went above and beyond to track down data and insights and put together what was ultimately a comprehensive ~60 page report with case studies. John developed a proposal and worked with Wine Tasmania to clarify the scope and outcomes of the project as well as the budget. There was frequent communication with John along the way and he reported several times to the Wine Tasmania Board to make sure the research was focused and within scope. His work has provided invaluable information which will help to position the Tasmanian wine sector for future success.
